Cryolipolysis – Fat Reduction Through Freezing (CoolSculpting & Plate Technology)
Non-invasive | No Downtime | Visible Fat Reduction
Cryolipolysis is a cutting-edge body contouring treatment designed to reduce stubborn fat through controlled cooling. At AKAAS Laser MedSpa in Orlando, Florida, we offer two advanced options:
- CoolSculpting-style suction applicators
- Flat cryolipolysis plates (no suction)
Both technologies target and freeze fat cells safely and effectively, delivering noticeable, long-lasting reduction without surgery.
How Cryolipolysis Works
Cryolipolysis uses controlled cold temperatures to crystallize unwanted fat cells. Once frozen, these fat cells become damaged and are naturally eliminated by the body through the lymphatic system.
- Fat cells freeze before the skin, nerves, or muscles are affected.
- Your body gradually removes the destroyed cells over 4–12 weeks.
- Results are natural-looking and permanent, as fat cells do not regenerate.
Benefits of Cryolipolysis
- ✔ Non-invasive – No needles, anesthesia, or surgery
- ✔ Zero downtime – Resume normal activities immediately
- ✔ Reduces localized fat resistant to diet and exercise
- ✔ Safe, FDA-cleared method
- ✔ Suitable for multiple areas of the body
- ✔ Comfortable procedure – Only cold sensation during first minutes
- ✔ Customizable – Suction or plate-based technology depending on area and sensitivity
Ideal Treatment Areas
Cryolipolysis is perfect for:
- Abdomen
- Flanks / Love handles
- Back fat
- Bra fat
- Inner & outer thighs
- Arms
- Double chin (with specific applicator)
- Hip roll
- Lower belly pouch
CoolSculpting vs. Cryo Plates – What’s the Difference?
CoolSculpting (Suction)
- Uses vacuum suction to pull fat into the applicator
- More aggressive on deeper fat pockets
- Ideal for abdomen, flanks, and arms
Cryolipolysis Plates (No Suction)
- Great for clients who prefer a gentler, more comfortable treatment
- Perfect for individuals prone to bruising or discomfort with suction
- Excellent for uniform fat layers and areas with less pinchable fat
Both methods produce similar fat-reduction results, depending on the area and body type.
Before & After Expectations
Before Treatment
- A consultation to determine target areas
- Measurements and photos taken
- Skin assessment to ensure safety
- You relax while the device cools fat for 30–45 minutes per area
After Treatment
- Mild redness or numbness possible for a few hours
- No downtime
- Progressive fat reduction over 4–12 weeks
- Best results after 1–3 sessions, depending on treated area
Cryolipolysis: Before & After
Before Treatment: Stubborn fat deposits are present despite diet and exercise. Contours may appear uneven or areas may feel firm. Ideal candidate for a safe, non-invasive fat reduction procedure.
After Treatment: Visible reduction of fat in treated areas. Improved body contour and smoother, more toned appearance. For best results, wear the recommended compression garment (faja) to support the treated area, enhance fat reduction, and promote skin tightening. Results continue to improve over the following weeks as the body naturally eliminates fat cells.
Who Is a Good Candidate?
Cryolipolysis is ideal for clients:
- Close to their ideal weight
- With stubborn fat pockets that don’t improve with diet or exercise
- Seeking a non-surgical alternative to liposuction
- Wanting gradual, natural-looking fat reduction
Contraindications for Cryolipolysis
Cryolipolysis is a safe, non-invasive procedure, but not everyone is a candidate. For safety, clients with the following conditions should not receive cryolipolysis:
Absolute Contraindications
- Cryoglobulinemia
- Cold agglutinin disease
- Paroxysmal cold hemoglobinuria (PCH)
- Severe varicose veins in the treatment area
- Uncontrolled diabetes or neuropathy in the area
- Pregnancy or breastfeeding
- Severe obesity (BMI extremely high; cryo is for contouring, not weight loss)
- Active infections, open wounds, dermatitis or eczema in the treatment area
- Hernias in or near the treatment area (umbilical, inguinal, ventral, or incisional hernias)
- Recent surgery in the same area (must wait for full clearance)
- Metal implants or medical devices in the area being treated
- Pacemakers or electronic medical implants (for cryo systems with electromagnetic components)
Relative / Temporary Contraindications
These require professional evaluation before treatment:
- Recent use of blood thinners (may cause more bruising)
- History of sensitivity to cold
- Post-inflammatory hyperpigmentation tendencies
- Recent injectables (wait 3–4 weeks)
- Severe skin laxity that may not improve with fat reduction
- Lipedema (requires case-by-case assessment)
What to Expect After Cryolipolysis
Cryolipolysis is non-invasive and requires no downtime, but realistic expectations are important. Here’s what clients can expect:
Immediately After the Session
- Redness in the treated area (up to a few hours)
- Mild swelling or tenderness
- Temporary numbness or tingling (can last days or weeks)
- Firmness in the area due to fat crystallization
- Possible light bruising, especially with suction applicators
- The area may feel cold, sensitive or slightly itchy
These effects are normal and fade gradually.
Progress of Results
- First 1–2 Weeks: Swelling begins to decrease. Numbness may continue. No visible results yet—this is normal.
- Weeks 3–6: Gradual fat reduction begins. Area starts to look smoother and more contoured. Clothes may fit slightly better.
- Weeks 8–12: Most visible results appear. Final results can reduce 20–27% of fat in the treated area. Skin adapts naturally to the new shape.
For Best Results
- Maintain hydration
- Follow lymphatic drainage recommendations
- Stay active and keep a balanced diet
- Some clients may need 2–3 sessions, spaced 8-12 weeks apart
